This just in... from AGC Equipment Finance:
"What is today’s equipment leasing and financing environment like?"
“What are the lenders looking for now? Or are they still approving customers?”
Fortunately the answer is yes; we are still funding equipment purchases and leases for customers every
day. On our end of the business, considered to be “Commercial Banking” or “Private Finance Companies”
things are fairly good. ACG is very well funded, and although credit guidelines have changed throughout the
banking world, we have not seen the drastic changes that large national banks have encountered.
Things have changed for sure, but since most lenders in our market avoided real estate transactions going
back many years, they are not as affected by the subprime mortgage mess, and are able to take advantage of
the tightening of local banks.
More and more credit managers are asking for financials on what they consider borderline transactions. If you
are asked to provide financials, but you are worried about what the credit person will think of them, ask me to
preview them with you. Most of the time credit people will add back in depreciation and they know that
business owners today do whatever they can to save on their taxes. Overall they know what to look for to see if
the company is in distressed or just trying to save money.
Applying for Financing with ACG
Here is a short list of things that will help in getting a credit application through as quickly as possible, and
will avoid drawing attention to missing items.
1. Complete credit application. We all like to cut corners here, but information is priceless, and a good credit
application provides the details that credit managers look for. (Cell phone numbers, annual sales, E-mail
address, number of employees)
2. Provide a Good description of the equipment being financed. Often "Truck", "trailer, "printer" is not enough.
Being able to verify the value of an asset is critical to making a credit decision. When possible include a quote
or invoice so there is no question about the asset and it's value.
3. Tell me everything you know about your potential customer, or your own business. Credit scores are black
and white, and don't tell the whole story. Did you land a new contract, get awarded a large job, add a second
shift, etc... Why are you buying this asset? We want to understand, as it helps us get comfortable with the
request.
